  Introduction
We hold regular outdoor meetings throughout the year which are open to everyone; from beginners to the more knowledgeable. We enjoy helping beginners and there is always someone on hand to help in identifying the birds. The venues and dates are published below and also in our quarterly Events Diary, available from the South West Regional Office.

  More about the meetings
Most of our outdoor meetings are bird watching walks in Devon, or in a neighbouring county. Roughly every three months we organise special events, including coach trips and occasional group holidays.

After each outing a member of the group writes up a report of the event. The leader of each field trip also compiles a list of birds (and perhaps other wildlife) seen on the trip. We list the birds in the sequence recommended by the BOU (British Ornithological Union), as explained here. In addition we list the birds in alphabetical order.

*** Car Sharing arrangements for Field trips***
In order to share cars for long-distance field trips, we meet at the car park at Clyst St Mary (grid reference SX972911). To reach the Clyst St Mary from junction 30 of the M5 (Sandygate roundabout), take the A379 towards Exmouth and Sidmouth. At the first roundabout (after crossing the River Clyst), turn left into Clyst St Mary, left again and follow the road signs to the car park. We normally meet there at 8.30am, but please check the programme to confirm the meeting time and whether we are sharing cars.

Field trips take place (more or less) whatever the weather so please be prepared with weatherproof clothing and waterproof footwear. To minimise disturbance to the birds, it is best not to bring dogs.
