Bowling Green Marsh, Topsham,

Monday 22 August 2011

On a beautiful warm, still summer's day 15 birders, including visitors from afar, enjoyed a walk along the Goat Walk to the viewing platform and then on to the hide at Bowling Green Marsh.

Although we had heard of bearded tits and a bittern from the hide on Saturday and we knew that two avocets were on the reserve on Friday morning we unfortunately could not find them. High tide was low at 2.9metres which meant that fewer birds came off the estuary to the reserve we were well entertained by lots of yellow wagtails feeding around the feet of the cattle. >b>A good total of 38 species were seen in the two hours.
