Wild
by Colin Varndell,
Tuesday 14th September 2010
The
September meeting saw a visit by professional wildlife photographer Colin Varndell. Based in Dorset Colin has taken literally
thousands of photographs of the area and its wildlife through the seasons. That
was the basis of his superbly illustrated talk, showing different aspects
through the year. He told us that every photograph was taken using a tripod and
that the keys to taking good photos were research, planning and patience. He
told how he would start putting feed stuff into an area maybe some months
before he wanted to set up his hide ( he always sets
up a camouflaged hide) and then take up position in the hide often hours before
first light. All this seemed to be very elaborate but Colin is a world renowned
photograph and this showed in the slides that he gave us. An excellent
display which I am sure taught all present something of how to improve our own
photographs.
